Role of Social Media in the Relationship between Teenagers and Adults

As many as 44% had talked about their life via social media.

On a more personal level,

38% of respondents had talked about their day via online mediums (social media account).

Social Media

With the help of the internet and social media, a lot of things have changed between the generations.

A little over 6 in 10 respondents said they used the internet to instant messaging with their elders; by contrast, just 1 in 5 said they went to talk face-to-face with them.

Use of an extra mode of communication:

Most respondents had both parents living pretty close by, it would be safe to assume that very few teens missed out on offline contact opportunities when they engaged on the internet.

A large proportion of respondents said they shared pictures or videos with their parents,

While 31% uploaded pictures or videos of themselves

Interestingly, a significant proportion of teenagers in India were taking pictures and videos on the internet (19%) compared to one in five adults.

The study, published in the journal Youth, Voice of Youth, found that younger teens (13-15-year-olds) in India used social media less frequently than older teens (16-18-year-olds).

Comparing to other age groups, this suggests that teenagers, as well as adults, look for entertainment and leisure activities on social media.

Why relying on social media as the primary source of getting information?

The main purpose behind it is that is very convenient and simple.

The users get the desired information without too much difficulty from end to end.

The usage of social media like Facebook, Whatsapp, etc. has increased a lot recently as compared to past time which has been observed by many researchers.

But this increase in usage does not mean that people have been talking on such social media platforms more than before.

Relationship between teenagers and elders:

The relationship which is developed between the teenagers and their elders depends on various factors such as:

•  Age

Usually, elders consider teenagers to be inexperienced, especially for a girl.

Hence, they do not communicate with teenagers too much especially when in comparison to adults.

On the other hand, the age gap between teenagers and adults can be comfortable for a girl.

•  Social Status

The status of a teenager concerning his/her parents should be considered as well while having communication with him/her if you are an elder.

A parent may think that any type of communication like,

Chat will destroy their image in front of the children.

On the other hand, teenagers will exchange more information about their interests on social media rather than face-to-face communication with elders.

This is because they find it easy to share such type of information online when compared to offline.

Over the years teenagers have been using social media & the internet for passing on messages and communicating with people.

The rapid rise in usage of the internet and technology has led to a lot of differences between the generations.

But why are so many people turning to the internet?

Is it easier for people to communicate through social media than in person?

There are several more questions similar to this, and unfortunately, we're not having any satisfying answers!

•  Socialization

Many people think that socialization is a way of interaction between two or more people.

In this case, the role of teenagers or adults does not matter but the motive of socializing does.

Adults and teenagers are using social media to make new friends and to stay in touch with their old ones.

Social networking has become one of the most widely used platforms for staying in contact with friends as it is,

Less complicated than other means of communication like emailing or calling.

It is a lot easier and faster to send out updates on your life via social networks than to tell someone about it in person or over the phone.

Many teens and adults use social networking websites because they can easily share pictures, instant message each other, etc., all without leaving their own house.

Reason: Most kids are using social media sites for communication!

The internet is a simple and easy way of communicating and sharing information.

People prefer social media sites over conventional ways of communication.

This is because many would rather use the internet to communicate with their friends and family than to talk in person face-to-face.

Although this is a good thing,

It can be dangerous if people are sensitive about what they share on the internet.

The government has placed restrictions on posting pictures on social media to avoid children being at risk, but this won't stop teenagers.

Why Secrecy of Accounts to Hide Pictures?

Teenagers can easily hide pictures in a secret folder.

On the other hand, teenagers and adults are using social networking sites to keep in touch with each other and to post pictures of things that they have done together.

Sometimes, there is also a good intention behind doing this.

But because of this, many people start to send very suggestive pictures and messages.

Taking a picture without permission is considered inappropriate behavior among teens and adults.

Most people say that social networking sites like Facebook have made it possible for teens to be more open about what they are doing without their parents knowing.

Conclusion:

Why is this all happening, & How to act accordingly is the Question.

The "Answer is the Action." Finding the way is crucially unbiased to realize.
